We are delighted and proud to announce a merger that will see all of the FC Woodley Zebras teams play as Woodley Wanderers FC from the start of the 2023/24 season in September.
“We were all set to have at least 20 youth teams next season from U7s through to U18s, as well as our fun mini kickers sessions for reception and year 1 children, and we are now delighted to welcome the 7 FC Woodley Zebras teams and management team into our Wanderers family. It will be to the benefit of everyone involved in both clubs, to bring together so many talented and enthusiastic people, passionate about delivering a fun and rewarding grassroots football journey for kids of Woodley and beyond”, commented Wanderers club chairman Richard Rodway.
“We are already starting to add a new girls section to the club, and have plans to return to local mens Sunday league football, as some very talented players graduate out of U18s each year, who we hope we can help keep within the game”
“With at least 27 youth teams and over 320 children set to sign on for next season, hopefully we can seize the advantages that come with this pooling and consolidation of effort, talent and enthusiasm and we’re already working on some exciting projects that we hope to be able to announce soon” commented Zebras chairman Dave Evans, who is also the Community Trust Manager at Reading FC, and who brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the club, to help mentor the next generations of Wanderers coaches amongst other things.
Woodley Wanderers FC was established in 1971, and is the oldest youth club in Woodley in it’s current form. It is hoped that this new collaboration will help galvanise and ensure the future of the club for years to come.
